Hello everybody today we will talk about a new discovery which took place during an excavation work on Luxor's west bank and that discovery is a tomb which  belongs to a top governmental official in the 18th dynasty called maayi.

At CAIRO, MARCH 17,  Mohamed Ibrahim,( antiquities minister of Egypt) told Ahram Online
,How the tomb was appeared and said that the excavation team found the tomb accidentally through a hole in the wall of tomb number TT109, in the area of Sheikh Abdel-Gournah.

The discovery was made during the Italian-Spanish Canario-Toscana archaeological mission in November and December of last year. The tomb is well preserved, Its  decorations show and reflect that its owner was of nobles and had luxurious life as we will see.

Inside the tomb:

one said that, they went into the tomb on their hands and knees and once their eyes   got used to darkness, they  saw the scenes represented  in colors on the walls. Their  eyes ran up and down the columns of hieroglyphics. they both knew that they were looking for the most  important element : the name. Then the silence was broken when they both yelled out MAAYI!''

The walls of the tomb have paintings that show the owner of it (Maayi) in several positions with family members offering details on his daily life and family relationsAnd also the paintings on one of the walls  presents  a feast with men and women grouped in front of a table filled with a variety of food,

One of the team members (called  Morfini)  said that the discovery considered as one of the most exciting moments of my life. ''when we studied the area, we realized there were some 'empty spaces' in the hill behind our tomb, TT109, but we never expected to make this sort of discovery on our first dig.And  she continued saying , It wasn’t  easy, though, like when during the 2011 revolution i had to leave the country and was ''worried about colleagues and friends, archaeological sites, and our future in the country.''

Morfini said,  i  feel very ''proud'' of Italy's high-level presence in the sector, and if we compare the heritage of Egypt with that we know we will find that what we know is very little. And The goal and aim of excavating is Finding resources about this powerful heritageNot all the tombs will be well preserved   and intact like that of Tutankhamun ,and may they will not include golden objects or jewels but  anything can be brought to surface and tells us about the life of the pharaohs is very important for the  Egyptologists .

Ibrahim said that the tomb isn’t completely discovered as debris blocked the entrance. And that was to remove the sand and rubble to be able to explore the rest of the tomb .
