New discovery of Colossi of Memnon 2014

The Egyptian minister of antiquities says
a team of German archaeologists has discovered missing
pieces from famed Colossi of Memnon. The actual
statues, dating to around 1350 BC, were damaged in a
earthquake during the Roman PERIOD.

The colossi are several of Egypt's oldest touristic sights,
drawing tourists since old times. The twin figurines, over 60
feet large each, are of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, who was
worshiped like a deity. The statues are the only remains of
a large temple that was inbuilt memorial of the pharaoh.

Minister of Antiquities Mohammed Ibrahim nowadays said
the team manufactured the discovery in synergy with
archaeologists from Egypt's Ministry of Antiquities.
He said
the pieces belong to the belt of one statue,
and the base on the other.
