hello everybody,In the past article we talked about  king
Cambyses II and his activities till his death
so In this article
we are going to talk about

the Mystery of missing 50,000 Persian army in the
Egyptian desert

so lets go

What about the disappearance of the Persian army?

The disappearance of Cambyses II army remains veiled with secrets. All his army vanished in the western desert on their way to Siwa oasis along with all their weapons
and other equipment, never to be heard  of again .

Cambyses II probably sent his army to Siwa oasis to
seek and seize legitimization of his rule from the oracle of Amun , much as alexander the great would do.

Legitimizing his rule does not fully explain the need for
taking such a large army to Siwa Oasis.
Maybe the priests of the oracle were posing a danger to Cambyses II`s rule, encouraging revolt among the
Egyptians.

Perhaps the priests felt angry that Cambyses II had not
immediately sought their approval as Alexander the Great would do almost upon his arrival in Egypt.
Another reason is that the army was continue on after
Siwa in order to attack the Libyans.

According to Herodotus (as later reported to him by the inhabitants of Siwa ),after many days of struggle through soft sand the troops were resting one morning
when calamity struck without warning.

As they were at their breakfast, a wind arose from the
south , strong and deadly, bringing with it vast columns of whirling sand , which buried the troops and caused them utterly to disappear.

B- what`s new about  the disappearance of the Persian army?

These excavations dedicate that the army of Cambyses II was defeated the Persian army

He added, "Since the nineteenth century, many looking for this army; amateur archaeologists  and professionals .. some expected to find it somewhere .. a whole army with all its equipment, but by  experience in the desert, no way someone die because of a sand storm, so what
about a whole army?
