Dr. Mamdouh Damati Minister of
Antiquities and Dr. Khaled Zakaria Governor of Giza opened the tomb of "Maya" wet nurse
of King Tutankhamun at the bassist archaeological area at Saqqara,
It is the first time to be opened for the Egyptians and the international tourists , since it was
discovered in 1996.
The Minister of Antiquities said that the opening
of that tomb is part of the ministry's strategy of the
opening of a new archaeological attractions, to attract tourists and visitors.
Also Dr. Mahmoud Afifi, head of the Egyptian
Antiquities sector explained that
"Maya" tomb is one of the most
beautiful cemeteries of the modern Egyptian period.
the description of the tomb :
The tomb is cut into the rock having a corridor that leads to a main chamber with 4 pillars
the inscriptions on the walls show the owner and its name in front of her
to the left of the visitor , there is a descending corridor leading to the burial chambers.
He added that this tomb was used
during the late period and the Greco-Roman era as a tomb for cats that belongs to the
cat goddess Bastet .
And also the original inscriptions on the
walls were covered by the late, and Greco-Roman eras and that’s the reason why the tomb`s inscriptions are saved and
almost intact
